Free Unit Converter

How many square meters are there in a square foot? Need a unit converter? Here you'll find a good one.
Català - Castellano - Deutsch
When working or gathering information on projects in countries the use different units, we sometimes need to convert the units to get an idea of the dimensions of that project, or simply to compare that project with others that use another system.

I am not going to enter into the discussion of why US has not yet adopted the metric system, so take this simply as a post to get a converter for as long as this is needed.

The one I am relying on for a long time is called "Covert for Windows" got it from my last job and it is actually freeware. below you can see the interface with all its different possibilities. Pretty light weight and easy to use.

You can get Convert at the author's page or download it directly here.

Project Vasari: Free Lite Version of Revit?

A new project from autodesk labs has gone live. A free lite version of Revit? Let's take a look at it!
Català - Castellano - Deutsch
During the last weeks there has been a lot of noise on the Revit / BIM blogging community about one of the latest Autodesk Labs Projects. The project is called Vasari. Some bloggers see it as a sort of Revit LT, more oriented for the initial phas eof design. I am still downloading the sowftware from the Project Vasari autodesk labs website so I have no opinion myself yet. So for now, i'll leave you with this preview video and a link to a great article by David Light describing the technology.

Looks promising, soon more.

AutoCAD for MAC Free Download

Get your free copy of AutoCAD for MAC.
Català - Castellano - Deutsch
The new version of AutoCAD for Mac is now available for free at the Autodesk Education Community. If you are a student or education professional (with a valid University email address) you can join the Autodesk Education Community and download for free the new AutoCAD for MAC version.

My parents own a 20+ year old "Apple Macintosh SE 1/20" that still works, but unfortunately will not be able to handle a trial of AutoCAD. So you, MAC freaks, will have to give it a try yourself. Hope it works great, this has been for a long time one of the reasons I never went back to using MACs. Maybe my next laptop will be one now that it seems there are less and less reasons not to get one. What do you think?

Oh! I forgot! If you are not a student you can still try AutoCAD for mac here.

Autodesk Education Community: Free student licenses for 3 years

The programs offered for free at the AEC have now a 36 month license.
Català - Castellano - Deutsch
On a previous post we mentioned the Autodesk Education Community, where students and teachers could get free versions of Autodesk Software with a license for 1 year for free.

Autodesk has changed this policy and extended the license periods to 36 months for all software packages offered at the AEC website. Now students can download free versions of Revit, AutoCAD, Inventor, Map 3D, etc and use it for 36 months without having to update their license.

A great way to learn to use Autodesk Products without having to spend any money. You have to register at the AEC community with a university email address to be able to download the products. Great initiative Autodesk!

Free Tools: Sweet Home 3D

A tool to model house interiors quickly, free and "cloudy"
Català - Castellano - Deutsch
Just got this forwarded from a friend. A free tool to model your home interiors for free, with an interactive 3D view to visualize what you are easily modelling in plan. See the following video.

I wouldn't use it for serious stuff, but I think it can be a nice tool to play with to introduce kids to 3D or for those who feel themselve 3D challenged but want to give it a first try. Very simple to use, with many options and you can use it without even installing a single piece of software. It can be run from your browser on the cloud.
Try it here. Thanks Chait for the link.
